📱 Sync your iPhone photos/videos with Nextcloud#
Automatically back up all your photos and videos to your Nextcloud LibraHost directly from your iPhone. No more data loss or full storage!

🧰 Prerequisites#
- An iPhone running iOS 15 or higher
- An active Nextcloud account with LibraHost
- A Wi-Fi connection (recommended for the first sync)
- Your Nextcloud instance URL (e.g.:
https://nextcloud.librahost.fr)
1️⃣ Install the Nextcloud app#
Download the official app from the App Store:
- Open the App Store on your iPhone
- Search for "Nextcloud"
- Install the app published by Nextcloud GmbH
- Open the app once installed
2️⃣ Connect your LibraHost account#
🔹 Log in to your instance#
- Tap "Log in"
- Enter your Nextcloud server URL:
https://nextcloud.librahost.fr - Tap "Next"
🔹 Authenticate#
- You will be redirected to the web login page
- Enter your Nextcloud credentials (username + password)
- Tap "Grant access" to authorize the app
- You are now logged in!
💡 Tip: If you use two-factor authentication (2FA), you may need to create an app password in your Nextcloud security settings.
3️⃣ Enable automatic photo synchronization#
🔹 Access the settings#
- Tap the "More" icon at the bottom right of the screen
- Select "Settings"
- Tap "Auto upload"
🔹 Choose the destination folder#
- Tap "Destination"
- Select or create a folder (e.g.:
/iphone) - Confirm your choice
🔹 Select albums to back up#
- Tap "Upload from"
- Choose "Multiple albums" to precisely select which albums to sync
- You can also choose "Camera Roll" to only back up photos taken with the camera
🔹 Configure auto upload#
Enable the following options according to your needs:

💡 Tip: If you want to back up all your existing photos, disable the "Save only new photos/videos" option during the first sync.
🔹 Finalize the configuration#
- Once all options are configured, tap "Enable auto upload"
- Synchronization will start automatically
4️⃣ Allow access to photos#
⚠️ Important: Without these permissions, synchronization will not work.
🔹 From iOS settings#
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll down and tap "Nextcloud"
- Tap "Photos"
- Select "All Photos"
🔹 Allow background app refresh#
- In Settings > Nextcloud
- Enable "Background App Refresh"
🔹 Allow location access (optional)#
To keep the geolocation data of your photos:
- In Settings > Nextcloud > Location
- Select "Always" or "While Using the App"
5️⃣ Verify proper operation#
🔹 From the iPhone app#
- Go to the "Media" tab at the bottom of the screen
- A sync icon appears on photos being uploaded
- Check the "Activity" tab to see upload progress
🔹 From the Nextcloud web interface#
- Log in to
https://nextcloud.librahost.fr - Navigate to the configured folder (e.g.:
/iphone) - Your photos and videos should appear there
6️⃣ FAQ & common issues#

Photos not syncing? Check permissions in Settings > Nextcloud > Photos and background app refresh.

Very slow sync? Make sure you're on Wi-Fi and your iPhone is plugged in. The first sync can take several hours.

"Insufficient space" message? Your Nextcloud quota may be reached. Check your available space in the app settings or web interface.

Duplicate photos? Disable iCloud Photos or configure a different destination folder to avoid conflicts.

App closes in the background? Enable "Background App Refresh" in iOS settings and disable low power mode.
